ENGIE offers a new LNG solution on the Dutch transport market
With the establishment of ENGIE LNG Solutions B.V.,ENGIE introduces a total LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) solution on the Dutch transport market. The new company helps transport and shipping companies in the Netherlands to make the switch from diesel to the more environmentally-friendly and less expensive LNG. ENGIE LNG Solutions B.V. makes a sustainable contribution to the transport sector by selling LNG as a fuel for heavy road transport and shipping in the Netherlands and investing in the LNG refuelling stations and bunkering facilities.
The company is a 50-50 joint venture between Cofely Nederland, market leader in the area of energy efficiency services for businesses and local authorities that brings sustainable technological solutions into the joint-venture, and ENGIE Energie Nederland that provides LNG and energy marketing competences.
ENGIE regards LNG as a fuel of the future. The most important benefits of LNG are the environmental gain and the financial saving. LNG offers various environmental advantages compared to diesel: The CO2 emission is 15-20% lower, the particulate matter content is 95% lower, the emission of sulphur reduced by 90% and of NOx by 80%. Also, engines running on LNG are less noisy. This reduction in noise pollution is especially noticeable with night traffic and in city centres.
The LNG volume is about 600 times lower than that of natural gas, which is why it can be transported over the sea in LNG carriers. European market leader in LNG, ENGIE operates 17 LNG carriers and has long-term regasification capacity in Western Europe, including in Zeebrugge, Belgium and Montoir-de Bretagne and Fos-sur-Mer, France.
